In January 1988 the Supreme Court issued a ruling in this case. What are the constitutional and legal issues raised by this case? Suppose you were writing the Court's opinion. In whose favor would you decide-for the school district or for the student reporters?
The first amendment is for kids too, so i think that the three girls should be able to post there stories about high school teen problems. The reports were on teen pregnancy and parental divorces. When they were writing the reports they changed the names of the kids they interviewed to hide there identity so i don't see why the principal won't allow these stories.
ReplyDeleteThis specific court case is about how three kids or teens don't have the right to write about certain topics. Those topics are about runaway teens, pregnant teenagers, and parental divorce. Those teens are told by their principle that the articles they wrote were inappropriate. I think that it would be o.k. for the teens to write about those topics because they didn't mention the names of the people in the articles. The Declaration of Independence says that people have the right of freedom of press. That should happen in school as well as outside of school too(to a certain extent).
ReplyDeletethey put all that hard work in the articles and could not post them, that's not fair at all. I think they should put there story's in the paper and should be read. that should not have happened.
ReplyDeleteThis court case is about 3 kids that wrote about teenage problem like divorce and teenage pregnancy. I think that the students work should have been put in the paper. The 3 students put fake names in the paper and only the people that it happened to would know. I think it violates their 1 amendment which is freedom of speech and freedom of press. If I was to guess what the courts opinion was I would say that is was perfectly fine to write about this topic because I almost happen in every kid’s life.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Connor if they changed the name I don't see a problem with that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Connor. Kids also have freedom of press. The girls should be allowed to right about whatever they want.
ReplyDeleteI think that the three girls should be able to post the stories in the school news paper. I mean it shouldn't matter what the girls put in the paper as long as they don't hurt anyone or say anything bad. I think the 1st amendment is definitely happening here. So I think that the three girls should when this one.
